The Crestwood Neighborhood Association FAQ

What is a neighborhood association?
  • A neighborhood association is a voluntary association of residents that collectively work together to create a better neighborhood for all.
Do you have to be a homeowner to be a member of the Association?
  • No. It is not a homeowner association and membership is voluntary. Homeowners and renters have worked together for decades to make the neighborhood what it is today, so both are welcome in the neighborhood association.
What does the Association do?
  • The members of the Association meet regularly to socialize, conduct business, and discuss the future of the neighborhood. Our goal is to make Crestwood the best neighborhood it can be.
Yeah, but what does the Association do?
  • The Association performs many functions, including:
    • neighborhood clean-up at least once each year;
    • maintaining the half-mile long, beautiful 19th Street median;
    • maintaining the Crestwood signs at the entrances to the neighborhood;
    • designing, writing, printing, and delivering the Crestwood Chronicle neighborhood newsletter;
    • acting as a liaison between the neighborhood and its Police Community Relations (PCR) officer;
    • acting as a liaison between the neighborhood and the City of Oklahoma City;
    • planning and executing neighborhood events, such as Neighborhood Night Out, Movies on the Median, Booze and Dues, and more
How much are membership dues?
  • Association dues are $30 per home for a family and $15 per home for a single person. Dues are collected annually, and they can be paid at any time by contacting the Treasurer or donating via PayPal on our Membership page.
What does the Association do with that money?
  • The Association pays for a number of things, including:
    • to water the 19th Street median;
    • the electricity to light the 19th Street median;
    • bags for animal waste receptacles on the 19th Street median;
    • landscaping and mulch for the 19th Street median;
    • maintenance of neighborhood signs, benches, and public areas.
But why the focus on 19th Street? I don't live on 19th Street.
  • Neither does the Association President or most of the Association's members. But the 19th Street median is an important piece of our neighborhood. Crestwood does not have a City park within its boundaries and, to reach one, residents would have to cross busy streets like NW 16th, 23rd, North May and Villa. The 19th Street median is our de facto park, and we take great pride in it. Children play there. Adults walk their dogs there. Association meetings take place there. It is a unique public place in that it was originally designed to be a trolley line. As such, it is very wide with beautiful landscaping and places for public congregation. Every village has a village green. Every town has a town square. Crestwood has the 19th Street median.
